The Laramie Project explores a community’s response to the tragic 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay student at the University of Wyoming who was kidnapped, severely beaten, tied to a fence, and left to die in the middle of a prairie. Constructed from more than 200 interviews conducted with residents, friends, clergy, and others connected to the case, the play paints a deeply human portrait of a town struggling to process grief, fear, anger, and compassion.
