For the Purchase Players of Mayfield’s Community Performing Arts Center, each season’s shows are more than productions.

“Our community has bolstered us so immensely the past decade, seeing us through pandemics and devastating tornados,” says Kyler Danowski, board member and chair of the play selection committee. “We think of each of our shows as a gift that we are giving back to this community.”

Building upon the momentum of successful 2025 and 2026 seasons, with sell-out shows that have included Heathers The Musical, Shrek The Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Little Women, the theatre has unveiled its 2027 season, themed “From Laughter to Legacy.”

“This season will include us bringing yet another world premiere to our community, a show that has never been performed in our region as well as stories that are profoundly moving and incredibly joyful,” says Danowski. “Our theatre has worked hard to ensure that every production brings an experience to this community that will enrich our neighbors, both old and young.”

The 2027 production schedule includes:

  • To Kill a Mockingbird

  • Whitney’s Wild Wedding (a world premiere)

  • The Laramie Project

  • Trolls the Musical Junior

  • 9 to 5 Junior

  • Dear Evan Hansen

  • Sweeney Todd

  • A Charlie Brown Christmas

Additional show information:

To Kill a Mockingbird - February

Directed by Alex Goodman

Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the show brings to life a sleepy Alabama town in the midst of the Great Depression where the façade of the seemingly peaceful town begins to crack under the weight of a trial that explores prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right.

World Premiere: Whitney’s Wild Wedding - April

Directed by Kyler Danowski

Fans of shows like Four Old Broads on the High Seas and Four Old Broads Christmas Extravaganza will be in for the same raucous comedy in the world premiere of Whitney’s Wild Wedding, the latest from nationally acclaimed playwright Leslie Kimbell. This fast-paced southern farce will see who survives when a bride and her overpowering mother try to pull off the Southern wedding of the century, against all odds.

The Laramie Project – May

Directed by Nancy Parks

This theatre-in-the-round special event will explore the human portrait of a town struggling to process grief, fear, anger and compassion when one of their own is brutally murdered. This deeply powerful and timeless theatrical collage challenges audiences to reflect upon their own empathy, acceptance when confronted by hate.

Trolls The Musical Jr. – June (Children's Theatre Camp)

Directed by Jaime Prince, Anna West and Deena Green

Based upon the intensely popular DreamWorks Animation movie franchise, Trolls the Musical Junior transports the audience into a hilariously unforgettable world full of overly optimistic singing Trolls. When confronted with an adversary who threatens their vibes, the Trolls must band together and overcome the best way they know how —through song and dance.

9 to 5 Jr. – July (Rising Stars Workshop)

Directed by Jaime Prince, Anna West and Deena Green

Set in the late 1970’s, this story of friendship and empowerment rings just as true today as when it debuted in the workplace era of Rolodexes and fax machines. Through a score from the talents of Dolly Parton, this show explores collaboration and the power of change while also taking care of business.

Dear Evan Hansen – August

Directed by Kyler Danowski

Called “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history,” Dear Evan Hansen is making its region debut on the Purchase Players stage. This winner of six 2017 Tony Awards, two Obie Awards, a Drama Desk Award, two Outer Critics Circle Award and two Helen Hayes Awards brings a deeply touching portrayal of young adults struggling to find their place in the world and what happens when they land in the wrong spot.

Sweeney Todd – October

Directed by Cali Wheeler

Chosen for the season by popular demand, Sweeney Todd brings one of the classics of the stage to our community, sending audiences careening back in time to nineteenth century London where the main character is seeking vengeance with a genuine thirst for blood. Featuring some of the most chilling music ever written for the stage, this masterpiece is sure to both thrill and delight as part of the 2027 Haunted Graves experience.

A Charlie Brown Christmas – December

Directed by Callie Drury

In a true holiday tradition enjoyed by families for decades, a Charlie Brown Christmas will bring to life the Christmas spirit for all ages. As the Peanuts gang comes together to lift Charlie Brown’s spirits and transform his Christmas tree, audiences will discover the love, friendship and kindness that Christmas is truly about.
